What is Hematuria?

Hematuria is the presence of blood in the urine. It can be a symptom of various underlying conditions, ranging from mild to severe.

Symptoms

  • Visible blood in the urine (gross hematuria)
  • Microscopic blood in the urine (detectable only through lab tests)
  • Painful urination
  • Frequent urination
  • Urgent need to urinate

Complaints

  • Discomfort or pain while urinating
  • Visible blood or clots in the urine
  • Increased frequency or urgency of urination
  • Nocturia (waking up multiple times to urinate)

Causes

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Kidney stones

Risk Factors
