MGH Care - Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the MGH Care mobile app (package name: com.softhealth.meeydyamgh). The app is provided by Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (a unit of Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences & Technology (MGUMST)), referred to in this Policy as "MGMCH", "we", "us" or "our". The app is developed and published on Google Play by Softhealth India Pvt. Ltd. on behalf of MGMCH and MGUMST.

This Policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, who can access it, how it is protected, and the choices you have. By registering for or using the MGH Care app, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

Depending on the features you use, we may collect or process the following information.

Personal and Contact Information

  • Name
  • Mobile number
  • Email address
  • Patient/UMR number
  • Login and account information

Appointment and Healthcare Information

The app may process and display healthcare information linked to your patient account, including:

  • Appointment and booking details
  • Doctor and department information
  • Medical records and patient information
  • Laboratory, radiology and other investigation reports
  • Prescriptions
  • Bills and receipts
  • Diagnosis, assessment and vitals information
  • Discharge summaries
  • Other medical documents made available through the hospital

This information comes from the hospital's healthcare systems and is shown to you based on your patient account and the services enabled for you.

Family Member Information

If you use the family member feature, the app may process information about family members or other patients linked to your account.

Device and Technical Information

To operate, maintain and secure the app, we may process:

  • Device information and operating system information
  • App version
  • Technical, diagnostic and error logs
  • App performance information

The app does not currently use Firebase or Firebase Crashlytics.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Register you and manage your patient account.
  • Verify your identity and give you secure access to the app.
  • Register and manage your appointments and bookings.
  • Give you access to your medical records, reports, prescriptions, bills, receipts and other healthcare documents.
  • Send OTPs, appointment reminders and service updates.
  • Manage family members linked to your account.
  • Respond to your questions, requests and support needs.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, improve and secure the app.
  • Detect, investigate and prevent unauthorised access, fraud, misuse and security incidents.
  • Comply with applicable legal, regulatory, medical and record-keeping requirements.

3. Medical and Health Information

MGH Care is a healthcare app and may give you access to sensitive health information linked to your patient account. This information is available to you because of your relationship with the hospital and the services enabled for your account.

You are responsible for keeping your login details and OTPs confidential and for not sharing them with anyone who is not authorised.

4. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. Your information may be accessed or shared only where necessary for the purposes in this Policy:

  • Hospital doctors, staff and departments. Authorised doctors, staff and departments may access information to provide care, manage appointments, provide reports and process billing.
  • Softhealth India Pvt. Ltd. Softhealth develops and maintains the app on behalf of MGMCH and may access information only as needed to operate, maintain, support and secure the app.
  • Service providers. Where applicable, service providers that support essential app functions, such as hosting, OTP/SMS delivery and security, may process information only as needed to provide those services.
  • Government and legal authorities. Information may be disclosed where required by law, regulation, court order or lawful government request, or where needed to protect the rights, safety or security of the hospital, patients, users or others.

5. Family Members

The app may let you link and manage information about family members or other patients. By adding a family member, you confirm that you are authorised to access and manage that person's information and that you will use it only for legitimate care-related purposes. Please do not access or share another person's health information without proper authorisation.

6. Children's Privacy

The app is intended mainly for adults. Information about a child may be accessed through the account of a parent, legal guardian or other authorised person, where supported by the hospital. We do not knowingly encourage children to create their own accounts.

7. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and organisational measures, such as encrypted connections, secure login and access controls, to protect your information from unauthorised access, change, disclosure, loss or misuse. However, no electronic transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

8. Data Retention

We keep your information for as long as reasonably necessary to maintain your account, provide healthcare and support services, meet legal, regulatory, medical and billing record-keeping requirements, resolve disputes, and maintain security and prevent fraud.

Some medical, healthcare and billing records may need to be kept for longer to meet legal or medical record-keeping requirements, even if you ask for your account to be deleted.

9. Access, Correction and Deletion of Data

    To access, correct or delete your data or account, email guestrelations@mgumst.org.

    For a deletion request:

    • Send an email to guestrelations@mgumst.org stating that you want to delete your MGH Care account.
    • Include the information needed to identify and verify you and your account, such as your registered name, mobile number and patient/UMR number.
    • We will review and process your request in line with applicable law and our medical and legal record-keeping obligations.

Deleting your MGH Care account does not necessarily delete all medical, healthcare or billing records. Certain information may need to be kept for medical care, legal compliance, regulatory requirements, security or fraud prevention. Where information must be kept, we keep it only for the period required or permitted.

10. Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your login details and OTPs confidential.
  • Using the app only for lawful and authorised purposes.
  • Making sure the information you provide is accurate and up to date.
  • Getting proper authorisation before accessing or managing another person's information.
  • Telling the hospital immediately if you believe your account has been accessed without authorisation.

11. Consent

By registering for and using MGH Care, you acknowledge and consent to the collection, use, processing and sharing of your information as described in this Policy, subject to applicable law. If you do not agree, please do not use the app or provide personal information through it. Where the law requires a specific form of consent, we will obtain it in line with those requirements.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the app, our services, legal requirements or our data practices. For example, if new third-party services are introduced, this Policy will be updated. The latest version will always be on this page with its "Last updated" date. Please review it from time to time.
