What are Tropical Infections ?

Tropical infections are umbrella term used for infections endemic in tropical and subtropical countries including India usually due insect bites or poor hygiene. Example Dengue, Malaria, Typhoid, Scrub Typhus etc.

  • Eschar
  • Shortness of breath

  • Altered sensorium
  • Diarrhoea / Constipation

Complications

  • Shock syndrome
  • Kidney failure
  • Liver failure
  • Pregnancy complications

Causes

  • Bacterial: Salmonella typhi, Brucella spp. Rickettsia diseases
  • Viral: Dengue, Zika, Ebola, Chikungunya Parasitic- Malaria, Leishmaniasis, Toxoplasmosis
