Community Cancer Screening Initiative Through Mobile Screening Van in Rajasthan Advancing Preventive Healthcare Through Early Cancer Detection

Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Hospital, Jaipur, under the aegis of Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences & Technology (MGUMST), is proud to launch a Community Cancer Screening Initiative through a Mobile Cancer Screening Van, reaffirming its commitment to preventive healthcare, early diagnosis, and community well-being across Rajasthan. This large-scale public health initiative focuses on early detection and prevention of cancer, especially among populations with limited access to advanced healthcare facilities.

MoU with Government of Rajasthan for Statewide Cancer Screening

To strengthen cancer screening services at the grassroots level, MGUMST has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Rajasthan. This collaboration aims to implement Advanced Mobile Medical Van Services for comprehensive screening, diagnosis, awareness, and referral of critical diseases across the state.

As part of this initiative, MGUMST has launched its first fully functional Mobile Cancer Screening Van, with plans to progressively deploy more additional vans to expand outreach across urban, rural, tribal, and remote regions of Rajasthan.

Importance of Cancer Screening and Early Detection

Cancer screening plays a crucial role in identifying precancerous conditions and cancers at an early stage, significantly improving treatment outcomes and survival rates. Early-stage cancers offer the highest chance of cure and require less intensive treatment.

Common cancers such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, and oral cancer often show no symptoms or vague early signs, leading to delayed diagnosis. Therefore, regular screening of asymptomatic individuals is essential for effective cancer prevention and control.

Fully Equipped Mobile Cancer Screening Van Services

MGUMST’s Mobile Cancer Screening Van is designed to deliver on-site, high-quality cancer screening services directly to the community.
The van is equipped with modern diagnostic facilities for:

  • Breast Cancer Screening On-site mammography for early detection of breast abnormalities
  • Cervical Cancer Screening Pap smear tests for identification of precancerous and cancerous cervical lesions
  • Oral Cancer Screening Clinical oral examination for early identification of oral precancer and cancer

By bringing these services closer to the community, MGUMST aims to enhance awareness, accessibility, early diagnosis, and timely medical intervention, particularly in underserved and remote areas.
